TISSUE RECONSTRUCTION - BEVERLY HILLS, CA

What is Tissue
Reconstruction?

After health has been restored to your gums, various procedures can be completed to restore lost tissue and stop the progression of the disease. Dr. Raanan is a strong believer in a microsurgical minimally invasive approach to surgery. His patients benefit from this approach by achieving a more predictable optimal result, experience less discomfort and a faster healing time so you can return to your normal routine fairly quickly.

Achieving an ideal amount of gum and bone as support to surrounding restorations or implants may require hard- and soft-tissue reconstruction.

A to Z: Periodontal Maintenance Beverly Hills

Soft Tissue Oral Plastic Microsurgery is performed in patients whose gums have “receded” and whose teeth have become sensitive during chewing and drinking. This procedure will cover the exposed roots to protect them from decay and improve the aesthetics of your smile.

Your gums may have receded for a variety of reasons, including aggressive tooth brushing or periodontal disease. You may not be in control of what caused the recession, but prior to treatment, we can help you identify the factors contributing to the problem.

Who is Candidate for Soft Tissue Oral Plastic Microsurgery?

Those who may be eligible for Soft Tissue Oral Plastic Microsurgery are those suffering from periodontal disease and have insufficient gum tissue. This procedure is also appropriate for patients with healthy teeth who desire an improved gumline appearance for a more beautiful smile.

How Is Soft Tissue Oral Plastic Microsurgery Done?

The procedure is very precise and gentle. Healthy tissue from other portions of your mouth is transplanted to address an area suffering from poor health or deterioration. This procedure can also be performed utilizing processed and sterilized cadaver tissue to avoid a secondary surgical site.

Hard Tissue Bone Regeneration

Bone Regeneration is an oral plastic surgery procedure performed that regenerates jaw bone in order to correct the damage caused by periodontal disease or tooth loss.

This procedure further protects your existing teeth and tissue so that you can experience an enhanced quality of life.

Bone regeneration improves health, function, and appearance. This procedure can recapture the natural contour of your gums and jaw after the loss of a tooth due to trauma, congenital anomalies, infection, or periodontal disease. Dr. Raanan utilizes this surgical procedure to encourage the body to rebuild bone, to leave you with a smooth gum line that coexists with your restoration or dental implant.

Sinus Augmentation:

Dr. Raanan has done extensive research in the Sinus Augmentation procedure. The key to implant success is the quantity and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed. The upper back jaw has traditionally been one of the most difficult areas to place dental implants successfully due to insufficient bone quantity and quality and the close proximity to the sinus. Sinus augmentation can help correct this problem by adding and developing bone in the maxillary sinus for the placement of dental implants.

Sinus augmentation may be required prior to future implants, but may also be performed at the time of dental implant placement. Two forms of sinus augmentation can be performed, depending on the situation and amount of bone required:

1. Conventional Lateral Window Sinus Augmentation

2. Indirect/Crystal Sinus Augmentation

Ridge Modification / Augmentation:

Deformities in the upper or lower jaw can leave you with inadequate bone in which to place dental implants: areas where a significant jaw concavity has resulted following tooth loss. To correct the problem, the gum is lifted away from the ridge to expose the bony defect. The defect is then filled with bone or bone substitute to build up the ridge, a barrier membrane is draped over the bone graft, and the tissues are replaced and sutured. Ridge modification has been shown to improve appearance greatly and raise your chances for successful implants that can last for years to come.

Tooth Extraction with Bone Grafting/Augmentation

After tooth loss, the bone surrounding missing teeth becomes weak and reabsorb. This often leaves the area in a condition where there is an insufficient bone for implant placement. Dr. Raanan may recommend performing bone grafting at the same time as tooth removal. This is especially true for teeth with considerable disease and bone loss whether from a tooth or endodontic infection, advanced periodontal disease, a vertical root fracture, or in an area where the tooth lies close to anatomic structures such as the sinus or nerves.

Extraction with bone-building can be beneficial to make a future implant more feasible. In this process, a tooth is carefully removed, any and all diseased tissue is removed, small particles of bone are placed in the area of the previous tooth root(s), and the area is covered by a barrier membrane. The area is allowed to heal three to six months prior to 3-dimensional imaging and future implants. Dr. Raanan believes that bone regeneration is a great option to restore the health and function of your smile.
